Turmeric to relieve Arthritis

According to medical director Continum Center For Health and Healing at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, herbs and other natural medicines can be as effective as modern medicine and often without negative side effects.
Turmeric contains curcumin, an anti - inflammatory powerful tool that works like a Cox-2 inhibitor, a drug used to reduce Cox-2 enzyme, which causes pain and swelling of arthritis. May also prevent colon cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
According to a small clinical trial conducted in 2006 at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, curcumin can help shrink colon polyps, when taken with a little quercetin, a potent antioxidant found in onions, apples and cabbage. The number of polyps dropped more than 60% and the remaining polyps shrunk by more than 50%.
From a 2006 study published in the journal of Alzheimer's disease, researchers from UCLA also found that curcumin clean the brain of plaques that are characteristic of this disease.
To obtain these benefits, experts recommend using this spice in cooking whenever possible. For the therapeutic dose, James A Duke, PhD in The Green Phramacy suggest curcumin extract 400 mg, 3 times a day. As usual, before getting any supplement, consult with your doctor first.
